Local firefighters have been given a new tool to assist them with their training efforts. The Blakely Hose Company #2 has received a gift from a local businessman to utilize a property, which is slated for demolition in the near future, for training purposes.
Tom Capezio of Capezio Realty Company, Blakely, has graciously donated the use of the property for the firefighters to conduct realistic training under controlled conditions. While the property is not being used for live fire training, the Blakely Hose Co. #2 and departments from the surrounding communities use the structure for ladder drills, practicing search and rescue techniques, advancing hose lines, and simulating “firefighter down” scenarios.

“It is important for our firefighters to receive realistic training.” said Blakely Hose Co #2 Fire Chief Tim Fanning. “Our members travel to various training venues and fire academies across the State. Now they could receive training in a building in their own back yard.” Chief Fanning said.
“I am glad to provide our local firefighters with this property. When the fire department approached me to use the building for training I felt it was a great opportunity to support my community.” Mr. Capezio, a Blakely native said.
Training sessions will continue at the structure and become more complex as demolition
nears. “We will use the building as much as possible until the day the demolition contractors come to tear it down.” Blakely Hose Co #2 Captain and Training Officer William Bekanich said. “This building is 123 Main Street, Any town, USA, and has most of the structural details a firefighter will encounter without the actual fire. It is an excellent training tool.” Captain Bekanich said.The Blakely Hose Co #2 extends its gratitude to all that support its organization.
